September 27, 2008: the way from Pavia to fancigena Piacenza

From the station the first section of Pavia in the city center to the covered bridge, then the eastern outskirts of the city was a very pleasant surprise! Finally, in Valle Salimbene we diverted to a road that is almost clear of traffic south of the state. From Belgaum (do not miss the castle) begins a series of charming towns and villages almost close to the Po, immersed in the scents and atmosphere autumn: Torre de Negri, Thick, San Zeno, Zerbo, Pieve Porto Morone. From this we climb the embankment and for miles the ride is quiet and pleasant. The center of this area is most important in Monticelli Pavese, who has a singular peculiarity.
From Wikipedia: In medieval times the territory of Monticello is to the south of the Po river, surrounded by a river bend. [...] In 1164 the Emperor Frederick I Monticelli assigned to the jurisdiction of Pavia, together with other places close to Piacenza; followed bitter struggles and lasting peace Monticelli assigned to Piacenza. In the late Middle Ages (1467) the river, changing course, determining the current location north of the Po Monticelli, it continues to be part of the territory of Piacenza, and only in 1816, following the Congress of Vienna, was joined to the Kingdom of Lombardy and Veneto to the province of Pavia.
I got from the bank and to Alberone CROSSED Lambro between the Lambrini and Orio Litta, we have come to St. Andrew's Court, where it passes through the side Piacenza transitus padi Danilo Parisi, who with commendable dedication take an active step in the history of this point ViaFrancigena . By the way, our whole route was full of guidance on this journey of pilgrimage, and for a while we followed the path back to Sigerico, Archbishop of Canterbury, who wrote in 994, returning from Rome to his diocese, the diary of the various stages touched during his trip (including the route from Piacenza in Pavia with transitus padi). From Piacenza Calendasco we ran for the train, then I am back in Soprarivo for the night.

15 and 17 September 2008: the right bank of the Po

area well known and frequented by bikers and cyclists, the bank of the Po Ferrara deserves an excursion. We have been in the area a few days and in particular the 17/09 we have come a long way from Ferrara to Mesola. From the city to Francolino (where it rises physically on the bank) is along a beautiful bike path that avoids the stress of traffic, however content. embankment ride is an experience that can not be told, you should try! Once in Serravalle you leave the main course of the river and continue on the branch of Goro, less majestic but equally interesting. The environment is very quiet and you can find mostly tractors and other cyclists.
The 15/09, left from Codicote and after the visit to the abbey of Pomposa absolutely essential, we met the bank a few miles before Goro, a typical fishing village. We followed the path to the mouth of the Po di Goro, passing at the left bank of Gorino Veneto through a bridge of boats a lot ... view. All this part of the output was characterized by a wind very annoying, sometimes across and sometimes not. According to the local cyclists is an everyday situation, which is why it is the proximity of the mouth of the Po delta in an area properly. Still
record: The location of both tours, you can review here activities, was supported dall'utilissima Emilia Romagna Railway from Ferrara to Codicote, a real gem for cyclists and the Po delta
